Many of them are really interesting and come from people who were in Buckden during the war or have since left the village and are trying to contact friends in the village from the past.
Hello! Just to say thought the website was great, and I am in fact a bugden living in the uk! would love to hear of any more info about the family name.
Jack
Hi Jack , Bugden is an old Anglo-Saxon Surname originating from either
Buckden in Huntingdonshire or Buckden in West Yorkshire around 1086.
The Huntingdonshire “Bugedene” was first recorded in the Doomsday book
of 1086 and means “The Valley of the Bucks”.
The first recorded spelling of the family name was in 1195 and was for a
William de Buggenden in Lincolnshire . Surnames were required from this date
as King Richard had dreamed up something he called Poll Tax !!!!
I checked on Genes Reunited and found 300 people named Bugden who were born between 1910 and 2010 . They seem to be mainly in the Southern Counties of England but also quite a few in Australia and some in Canada and the USA. I am not aware of any Bugden’s living in Buckden today.
I hope this has been of interest to you.
Regards
Tony Elliott
I have just found this website and it is bringing back lots of memories. My Grandfather, who brought me up, and his family all came from Buckden and we spent many happy holidays there. My Grandfather was called Geoffrey Thomas Peacock and he had lots of brothers and sisters who all came from Buckden. It is many years since I have been to Buckden but after looking at the website I am glad to say that it has not changed a lot since I last saw it. I now have a seventeen year old son and one day I will bring him to Buckden to show him around as he has heard a lot about it.

We stayed at The General Gordon when Julia/Davina got married and he came up to my wedding with Doris, after Auntie Betty had died. I also remember someone called Rachel Mortimer but I only met her once. Keep in touch Lesley xx

Older residents of Buckden might remember my wife Pat Rosemeyer
We came to live in Buckden in 1968 ,with our two sons,Peter and Nick. We first lived in Manor Gardens and later moved to Bishop’s Way.
Pat was for many years in charge of the Playgroup , first for Fr.Mahan then later for Fr.Fischer
In the Towers.
After seventeen years in Buckden, we moved to Spain to a small town west of Madrid. After 27
Years here, many of them spent teaching English to a variety of students, ranging from 4 year
Olds to a University Rector, Pat died on Monday 18 Feb. of a fairly rare condition called
Myastenia Gravis, that she endured for some six months.
She had always wanted to donate her body to a Teaching Hospital, and fortunately we were
Able to fulfill her wishes with the University of Alfonso xii near to where we live.
The Memorial Mass will be held in the local Church and will be attended by family, friends and many ex.pupils. She will be remembered with affection by all.
Peter Rosemeyer, Valdemorillo, Spain.
