Food and Drink

This is your chance to tell the village of all the good places to buy produce, where to eat out, good cafes and bars along with your personal recommendations. Why not tell us of your favourite restaurant, pub or bistro in our area. Clearly, there is considerable competition from within the village, but, you may want to recommend somewhere outside Buckden. Those of you with children could draw our attention to pubs, etc. that have safe gardens for those summer evenings.

We want to build some pages of recommendations so that we create our own Buckden guide to what's best in terms of food and drink in the Huntingdonshire area. Send us an e-mail and we will publish your views on this and (hopefully) subsequent pages.

Poppadom in Huntingdon

The Poppadom in Huntingdon (attached to the Territorial) is BY FAR the best Indian cuisine in the area. The food is freshly cooked - with fresh ingredients - and every dish has its own character and flavour. The "deal" is second to none - and the service is far superior to what you might expect for the money.

I have eaten at the Poppadom with my family and friends on numerous occasions since it opened - and once you have tasted the Indian food at the Poppadom - you don't want to eat at any other local Indian. What's more - its consistently good.

OK the decor is very bland - and it does have the Territorial next door. But the service is excellent - the staff extremely friendly - and the food is nothing short of excellent - especially for the money. Superb!

The Village Bistro, Little Paxton

Worth a visit The Village Bistro at the Conservatory Village, Little Paxton. Tel 01480 473322. Good food in very pleasant surroundings with music from a jazz trio for Sunday Lunch and some evenings. Good also for afternoon coffee.

Wheatsheaf - Perry

We recently took the family to the Wheatsheaf at Perry on a Wednesday night. Wednesday night is Fish and Chip night and as far as we could tell that is all that is served during the evening. The great news is that the Fish and Chips were terrific!! The pub was packed and we only just managed to get in without booking. Definately worth a visit if you fancy Fish and Chips on Wednesdays.

Conservatory - Old Bridge, Huntingdon

"I am reporting back on a meal that myself and my wife had at the Old Bridge on 14th February. We ate in the Conservatory. The food was excellent (9/10). Atmosphere good (9/10), Service erratic (5/10). The bill came to £67 including wine."
