We are delighted to bring you Surina Knitting Needles and Crochet Hooks crafted from the hardwood of the Lal Khola tree grown on plantations around Sundarban in eastern India. We are pleased to provide a postal service.

The Lal Khola is locally known as "the elegant tree". These trees are tall and very straight. The branches are slender and produce wood which is strong and hard, yet light in weight, pale pink in colour and very suitable for woodworking. In Kolkata (formerly known as Calcutta), highly trained and skilled artisans craft this elegant wood into exceptional knitting needles and crochet hooks, highlighting the natural grain and extraordinary smoothness of the wood. A lustre polish is given to the wood, enhancing the superb grain without the use of any harmful chemical or polishing agent.

As more and more knitters and crocheters are learning, instruments made of wood are far gentler on the hands than metal, as they are warmer and less rigid. They also improve with age as the process of knitting or crocheting continually enhances the finish. These needles and hooks are things of beauty in their own right, and even non-knitters are reluctant to put them down, as they are so appealing to the hand and eye.

As with any handmade product, no two items can be entirely identical. Therefore variations in shade, grain and hand-turning ensure that your Surina product is unique.

The craftsmen who produce the needles are treated well and fairly, and none of the original workforce who joined the firm at its inception in 2002 has left the company.

Our goal is to provide you with superbly crafted wooden and bamboo knitting needles and crochet hooks in the sizes you want. While there are naturally limitations on how small in diameter the needles can be produced, we can supply needles in sizes of 12, 15, 19 and 25 mm, and in a variety of lengths.
