Buckden Neighbourhood WatchBuckden has an effective Neighbourhood Watch organisation that covers all households in the village through a network of 42 separate Watches. Each watch covers an agreed number of properties in a street and has a Coordinator assisted by a Deputy. These volunteers are asked to make themselves known to their neighbours and to undertake to pass on to households in their Watch, details of significant village crime, and where appropriate, warnings of potential criminal activity. They receive this information, normally on a weekly basis, from the Cambridgeshire Police who disseminates the details via the Internet and by using a telephone voicemail system. The organisation is overseen by a committee of four, drawn from the list of Village Coordinators. They meet regularly to deal with the administrative aspects of the system and to liase with the Police and their Community Support Officers. They provide guidance and assistance to the Street Coordinators; undertake the recruiting and briefing of new volunteers, as well as providing advice to villagers on how to deal with criminal activity or anti social behaviour. Buckden is one of the few villages in Cambridgeshire to have this degree of neighbourhood watch coverage. However, there are inevitably comings and goings within the village and from time to time new coordinators and deputies are needed. If you would like to volunteer or would like further information, please contact one of the four Committee members whose telephone numbers are 811472 (Richard West), 811653 (Jim Morris), 811828 (Clive Williams) or 810496 (Barbara Cobham). If you require further information on local Policing or on Neighbourhood Watch via the web then it is recommended that you visit the following sites: www.stneotsneighbourhoodwatch.org.uk In all instances of criminal activity or anti social behaviour you should in the first instance contact the Police. Where a crime is actually being committed the 999 services should be used. For less urgent matters the Police request that you contact them through their Call Centre number 0845 456 4564.
