Workers' Educational Association (WEA)
Buckden Branch

What is the WEA? The Workers’ Educational Association was founded in 1903 to give opportunities for working people to continue learning. To-day, our classes are open to all adults: young, old, in work, at home, unemployed or retired.

The WEA is a nationwide voluntary educational charity with no party political or religious ties. We employ course tutors and a small professional staff, but our strength lies in the work of the voluntary members who govern the District and run local branches which choose and deliver courses in the community.

Each branch is run autonomously and ours is no exception, we choose our own topics for study democratically, and elect a committee to see to the general running of the branch.

We meet on Tuesday mornings at 10 a.m., which gives the opportunity for older people to join us, some of whom would not venture out on winter evenings. However we welcome younger members, the only qualification to join is to have a lively interest in learning.
